Ethernet Crossover Cable

Getting two computers connected via ethernet without a router can be achieved using a special type of cable. The ethernet crossover cable is made specifically for the transfer of information between two computers, servers, or routers. A normal ethernet cable can only send the data one-way, but an ethernet crossover cable allows two-way data transmission. The wiring differences can be seen through the RJ45 connectors at the ends of the cable. One side will have crossed over wires in a crossover cable. These cables are used to temporarily connect two computers, servers, or routers until a more permanent solution can be found.

The technologies used to make an ethernet crossover cable are the same as normal ethernet cables. The only difference between the two are the layout of the wires. A normal ethernet cable has the same layout on both ends. A crossover cable's wiring has the first and third, along with the second and sixth, wires crossed.

Ethernet Crossover Cable

Because of the crossed over wires, an ethernet crossover cable allows two-way transmission of data. A normal ethernet cable only allows one-way sending of information. This is because the crossed over wires will reverse the incoming and outgoing signals. Connecting two computers, routers, or servers with an ethernet crossover cable is a temporary solution until a router or hub can be bought.

The most common pair of devices to be connected with one of these cables is two computers. They can also be used to connect two routers or two network servers together as well. The ethernet crossover cable is able to send the necessary data both ways, but it is only a temporary solution. It is used to connect the two devices together for a while, until a person can go out and get an actual router or hub to connect the devices into. It is also important to not connect two different devices, such as a computer to router, with a crossover cable, as this will prevent a functioning connection.

Connecting two computers or network devices together will require a type of crossover cable. The ethernet crossover cable is used for ethernet connections. The RJ45 connectors show that one end has overlapped wires in one of these cables. They are not used to connect two different network devices together, as this would prevent the network from working. It is also a temporary answer to allow a person time to get an actual router or hub. The technologies between a normal ethernet cable and a crossover one is fundamentally the same, the only difference is in the wiring.
